ACB raids Goa opposition leader's residence”

When contacted, Kavlekar said that he is ready for an inquiry by the ACB or any other agency. "The Chief Secretary's office has given us the clearance to file an FIR in the case", ACB officials said.

When asked if Chandrakant would be arrested, ACB superintendent of police Bosco George said that if he is not able to give a satisfactory reply and we require him for custodial interrogation then we may decide about it.

George said the FIR also names his wife Savitri as a co-accused as she is the director in his company. "Kavlekar and his wife have amassed disproportionate asserts to the tune of Rs 4.78 crore, which is around 59.21 per cent above their known source of income", George said at a press conference in Panaji. It has also said that the government should consider referring the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

He said the properties were purchased in the period between January 2007 to April 2013, during which Kavlekar held the post of chairman of the Goa Industrial Development Corporation on three occasions.

He has booked under Section 13 (2) r/w 13 (1) (e) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 109 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Elected representatives are bound to file the details of their assets with the Lokayukta.

He said the searches are going on at his residences and offices of his company.

The complaint was substantiated with the documents obtained under the Right to Information Act which revealed that the then government in September 2014 had awarded the beach cleaning contract of the North Goa beaches to Bhumika Cleantech Services Pvt Ltd at a annual cost of Rs 7.51 crore and the cleaning of South Goa beaches to Ram Cleansers & Developers Pvt Ltd at a cost of Rs 7.4 crore with both companies being owned by Manish Mohata.

The state government was trying its best to demoralise the opposition through such tactics, he alleged.

Kavlekar is a third time member of the Goa assembly.

The Goa Police had filed a case against Kavlekar in 2012 under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, taking suo moto cognisance of some media reports, which alleged his involvement in illegal allotment of plots.

"The raids were conducted on Saturday morning, in connection with the disproportionate assets case where 14 properties worth crores of rupees were purchased in the state of Kerala".
