China opposes Japan's investment in 'disputed areas' of India's North East

China opposes Japan's investment in 'disputed areas' of India's North East”

"Under such circumstances, we hope India and various parties should respect such aspects and any third party should not be involved in our efforts to solve disputes", she added.

India and Japan had on Thursday signed Joint Statement for the development of northeastern states during Japan PM Shinzo Abe's two-day visit to India for the inauguration of high-speed Bullet Train between Ahemdabad-Mumbai.

However, Japan had accused Beijing of changing status quo, during Doklam standoff with India. "Now, China and India are working on seeking a fair and reasonable settlement which can be accepted by both sides through negotiations".

Hua also referred to the boundary dispute while replying to a question about the Indo-Japan joint statement issued after the talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe.

Though the joint statement did not specifically refer to Arunachal Pradesh, large parts of which are claimed by Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying spoke about the disputed border in the "eastern section" when she was asked about the Act East Forum at a news briefing.

The two countries have chose to seek synergy between India's "Act East" Policy and Japan's "Expanded Partnership for Quality Infrastructure", by closely coordinating, bilaterally and with other partners, for better regional integration and improved connectivity as well as industrial networks based on principles of mutual consultation and trust.

Hua said the boundary between India and China was yet to be delimited: "There are disputes over the eastern section of the China-India boundary". About the references to the Indo-Pacific, which includes the South China Sea, in the India-Japan joint statement, and calls for the countries involved to resolve the disputes peacefully, she said the statement demanded that disputes be resolved through dialogue. "This is China's position", she said.

"We also hope various parties can uphold the rights to freedom of navigation and over-flight by countries in various waters", she said. "I have not seen that". It further recommends the Indian intelligentsia to not to exaggerate the geopolitical significance of closer India-Japan ties. So, I am wondering whether this is the overinterpretation of the media or just like the media's conjecture, both Japan and India have the hidden agenda. "We hope that relations will be conducive to regional peace and stability and can play a constructive role in this regard", he was reported as saying.
