Church thanks Sushma for Father Tom's rescue”

They moved me to different holding cells blindfolded.

The priest was abducted by terrorists in Aden in March a year ago and was rescued from captivity from an undisclosed location in Yemen Tuesday.

He said terrorists provided him with insulin for some days and after that they got tablets for his diabetes as they were not able to procure insulin. You might wonder what I was doing the whole day. "They never threatened me in any way", he said. I did my prayers and even carried out the holy mass, when they were not in the room.

The priest also said that he spent his time praying for all and everyone.

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) has lauded External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's role in getting the release of abducted Christian priest from Kerala Father Tom Uzhunnalil and described the senior BJP leader as a "compassionate" person.

"I am thankful to the President Ram Nath Kovind and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all the Ministers who have expressed concern", Fr. Uzhannalil said.

Father Uzhunnalil, who belongs to Bharananganam in Pala in Kottayam, was abducted from the port city of Aden after the terror group attacked a care home run by Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity.

The priest was released on September 12 and the Minister tweeted on Saturday a letter written to her by the CBCI Secretary General Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas.
