Coloradans make it home after Hurricane Irma ravages US Virgin Islands

Coloradans make it home after Hurricane Irma ravages US Virgin Islands”

The Foreign Secretary is set to visit the British Virgin Islands and Anguilla, both of which have suffered severe damage at the hands of the storm.

As most Coin Update readers know, the Pobjoy Mint is a private company in the United Kingdom that produces circulating and collector coinage on behalf of governments, central banks, and major companies worldwide.

He is urging people to donate to the British Red Cross through Virgin Money Giving (who are now waiving their fees for the relief effort) to help those who have been affected by what Branson calls "the storm of a century".

"We have maintained and kept law and order on the BVI, which at one point, could have dramatically threatened the already unfortunate plight of those who had been hit by the hurricane", he said.

Their objective, they say, is to develop facilities, attractions and even engineer beaches and the environment in a manner that ensures their clients experience the white sand and waving palm tree paradise they have imagined.

You know, I've been talking to people around the region - talking to officials, pilots, relief crews - and this word that I'm hearing from them is, you know, it's really bad in some places and nearly every building destroyed.

He gave Connor and Cox five minutes to decide whether they wanted his help, and shortly afterward, Parr said, they called.

"We need construction workers, electricians, plumbers, health care personnel, and more security", Flowers said. "So we're very grateful".

"Everyone is stressed and hungry and confused", she said.

ADELINE CONNOR: I remember during the height of the storm, the doors started to go.

BEAUBIEN: The nursing home has 12 residents, and only three of them are ambulatory.

Parr first came to St. Thomas in 1990 to help rebuild after Hurricane Hugo.

The helicopters are headed to the US Virgin Islands to assist in recovery operations following Hurricane Irma.

Businessman Branson, who has lived in the British Virgin Islands for the past 11 years, said in a blog post on www.virgin.com that the region needed a "Disaster Recovery Marshall Plan" to rebuild and revitalize its economy - a reference to the multibillion-dollar US program that helped rebuild Western Europe after the devastation of World War Two. Their focus is on getting food and water to residents as well as clearing roads and helping restore power.

BEAUBIEN: The director of the adolescent facility, Kimberly Bourne-Vanneck, says four teens helped move the elderly patients from one part of the nursing home to another as successive rooms flooded. "I'm speaking these words from a satellite phone that is just about working, but all other communications are down". Providing access to potable water remains a priority, they said, adding that a desalination machine is expected to arrive from Spain on Friday.

"We had (landing ship dock) RFA Mounts Bay in position in the region before the hurricane struck - it would have been totally absurd to bring troops in or bring heavy aircraft during the storm itself".

"We don't have a place of our own".
