Police up patrols at railway stations in Hertfordshire following London's terror attack

Police up patrols at railway stations in Hertfordshire following London's terror attackā€

Officers from the Met have confirmed the fire on a train at the Parsons Green Underground Station at 8.20am yesterday was caused by a detonation of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

Armed officers returned to the streets of Lincolnshire, in Lincoln and major towns across the county, as the United Kingdom terror threat level was raised from severe to critical - meaning a further attack could be imminent after the London Tube bombing on Friday.

T/Superintendent Dave Minty said: "There is no known specific threat to Wiltshire and the South West region at this time and it is unlikely that our communities will see a military presence on the streets".

"With the threat level now at Critical, Police Scotland will be increasing our operations to protect the people of Scotland, our businesses and public places".

The force has already increased the number of police officers on patrol in key locations in the county, and is reviewing its road policing and armed policing capabilities with neighbouring forces Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

"Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the incident in Parsons Green". Such attacks are an attack on us all.

Terrorists want to create discord, distrust and fear.

We must stand together against terrorism. "Communities defeat terrorism, which is why we must maintain the strong relationship we have between the public and the police".

"We need people to be vigilant wherever they are - in public places, events within the county or on buses or trains".

We have well-rehearsed plans to respond to major incidents and we will be continuing to work with our partners to address the current heightened threat. To report suspicious activity, call the anti-terror hotline on 0800 789 321 or, in an emergency, call 999. HIDE. TELL" advice: "RUN, if you can; HIDE if you can't run; TELL, when you can, the police what's happening.
