Buhari Departs Nigeria For New York — UN Summit”

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday met behind closed doors with the governors of Borno, Kashim Shettima; Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje and Sokoto states; Aminu Tambuwal in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, before departing for NY, to attend the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The president is said to be anxious that despite strenuous efforts to retrieve monies stashed away various foreign bank accounts in Europe and America in particular, their governments were reluctant assist his administration in repatriating them.

President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption in Nigeria until it is completely exterminated from our body polity.

Buhari who was represented at the conference by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita said, "To set this country on the path of greatness and prosperity, complete elimination of all forms of corrupt practices must be in the front burner and our collective consciousness always".

Adesina had disclosed the president's travel plans on Friday, saying "President Buhari will transit through London on his way back to the country".

The Special Adviser to the Sokoto State governor on Media, Imam Imam, confirmed the meeting of the governors with the President on his Facebook page, yesterday.

The UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2375 last week, which imposes new sanctions on the regime, including a ban on textile exports and an oil embargo on the North over its sixth nuclear test. President Moon's keynote speech is scheduled for Thursday and he'll also be holding talks with Secretary-General Guterres and other leaders including President Trump and Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe regarding cooperation to raise the pressure on North Korea.

At the events, President Buhari and members of his delegation will strive to project Nigeria as a strong moral force and responsible member of the global community.

The 72 UNGA has as its theme, "Focusing on People: Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for All on a Sustainable Planet".

The Nigerian delegation will also canvass the support of United Nations member states for the Buhari Administration's efforts towards combating illicit financial flows in order to foster sustainable development.
