IAEA's Amano: Iran subject to most robust nuclear verification regime”

The comments came after the Haaretz newspaper cited several anonymous Israeli officials as saying that the IAEA failed to inspect suspicious sites in Iran even after they were provided with intelligence about them by an unidentified western "entity", i24news reported.

Turning to other matters within the Agency's remit, Mr. Amano stressed its unique role in transferring nuclear technology to developing countries, and its work in supporting countries achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals in energy, food and agriculture, industry, water management and health.

Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the IAEA has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic's compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, but some other parties, especially the USA, have failed to live up to their undertakings.

He emphasized that the United Nations nuclear agency would continue to verify the non-diversion of nuclear material declared by Iran under its Safeguards Agreement, adding, "Evaluations regarding the absence of undeclared nuclear material and activities in Iran remain ongoing".

But Haley's demands are "far beyond the purview of the JCPOA and its collectively negotiated and well-defined provisions", Salehi said, referring to the full name of the deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. "In Iran, as of today we have been able to visit, as planned, all sites and locations that we have identified for CAs".

Amano made the remarks in his opening address to the IAEA's 61st General Conference in Vienna, a week after he told the 35-member Board of Governors that Iran had lived up to its commitments under the JCPOA.

Speaking to reporters in NY on Monday ahead of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian gave a staunch defense of the JCPOA, stressing the importance of sustaining the deal.

The IAEA is tasked to monitor Iran's compliance with the agreement according to which Iran put limits on its nuclear activities in exchange for termination of financial and economic sanctions.

The United State, which is a party to the landmark nuclear agreement, seems to be laying out a case for abandoning it.

Iran has dismissed the request as an attempt to derail the nuclear agreement.

He said the body under his leadership is continuing to "implement the Additional Protocol in Iran" which allows surprise inspection of nuclear sites. The regime, however, refuses to either accept or deny having the weapons.

The Council has passed eight resolution over the DPRK's nuclear programme since it withdrew from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in 2003, many involving increasingly severe sanctions.
