Pedestrian hit by vehicle, killed while crossing Encinitas street

She was walking across Encinitas Boulevard at Balour Drive about 6 p.m. when a driver yielded to her.

A 61-year-old woman was killed Saturday when she was struck by a vehicle while walking in a crosswalk in Encinitas.

SDSO said a vehicle approached the intersection while the woman was crossing and stopped to allow her to pass. The pedestrian was rushed to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with life-threatening injuries; she died a short time later.

A female pedestrian died from injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle September 15 at an intersection in Encinitas, according to a San Diego County Sheriff's Department news release.

The woman's name has not been released.

The SDSO said the female driver who hit the victim remained at the scene and spoke with deputies. This investigation is ongoing by the San Diego County Sheriff's North Coastal Station, Traffic Division.
