Shots fired after OH man chases daughter in clown mask

Shots fired after OH man chases daughter in clown mask”

Vernon Barrett Jr. wore a clown mask and chased his six-year-old daughter around the neighborhood, according to Boardman Police.

Boardman Police say when Vernon Barrett Jr. began chasing his daughter, she first jumped into the auto of a stranger, then ran to a stranger's apartment, according to the Associated Press.

When the family looked out the window and saw the girl's father wearing the clown mask, authorities say Dion Santiago fired a gunshot into his yard but missed Barrett.

Santiago reportedly fired a single shot as a warning to stop Barrett and force him to comply until police arrived.

Barrett, who told police he wanted to scare her daughter rather than spanking her as a form of discipline, was charged with child endangering and inducing panic.

It is not clear whether the man was under the influence when he chased his daughter around the neighbourhood. He said that the girl's mother is already incarcerated on child endangerment charges after she beat the child so violently that she broke for of the girl's ribs.

Police told WYTV Barrett said his daughter was having behavioral issues and chose to discipline her by scaring her, as opposed to spanking her, because of what her mother did.
