Man, 20s, shot dead outside Dublin shopping centre last night”

Update - 11.41am: The 28-year-old man shot dead in CityWest in Dublin last night has been named as John Gibson.

Gibson tried to escape the attack but was gunned down several times outside of a fast food chain.

Garda Superintendent Peter Duff said the father-of-two was parking his silver Audi at the shopping centre when another vehicle parked in the same auto park.

Gardaí believe the victim could have been an associate of Darragh Nugent, a known gunman and drug dealer who was shot dead in Clondalkin last week.

The fatal shooting happened on Fortunestown Lane in Tallaght at around at around 9.20 pm tonight (Monday).

A Garda spokesman said: "The injured man received medical assistance at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later".

The victim, a fitness instructor from Lucan, was shot a number of times as he sat in his auto outside City West shopping centre.

Gardaí have cordoned off the scene in order to carry out a forensic examination.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Gardaí in Tallaght.
