Power outages hit more than 840000 Georgia customers

Power outages hit more than 840000 Georgia customers”

Watch for Georgia Power crews working across the state.

Please heed Florida's Move Over Law that requires drivers to move over and slow down whenever there is a utility worker, law enforcement officer or a first responder on the side of the road.

Gulf Power has a strong history of restoring power - both at home and away assisting other utilities.

Hurricane Irma has already degenerated into a tropical storm Monday after plowing through Florida over the weekend, but the residents are still affected by the damages that the Category 5 hurricane brought in the state.

Stay far away from downed power lines, flooding and debris; lines could be energized and risky.

When severe weather strikes, Georgia Power has access to additional resources available as part of the Southern Company system, which includes multiple electric and gas companies serving more than 9 million customers nationwide.

Utility officials say they have almost 20,000 workers helping with the restoration effort. "Please be patient. We are fully committed to restoring power safely & quickly".

Aside from the destruction in properties, reports also revealed that at least six people died in Florida due to Hurricane Irma. In advance of Irma, the utilities had called on thousands of fix workers from across the US and had been staging them in areas where the storm was expected to do its worst.

A month later, Gulf Power storm teams responded rapidly to calls for aid from Florida Public Utilities and Georgia Power, assisting with recovery operations following Hurricane Matthew. Also, ensure that curbsides and yards are clear to allow quick fix and restoration following the storm.

An online form on FPL's website started making the rounds on social media Friday promising customers could file a $200 claim for food that spoiled during power outages caused by Hurricane Irma. "With any storm like this there are going to be some outages".
