Ryanair publishes list of cancelled flights”

She was speaking after the airline announced its plan to cancel 40 to 50 flights every day until October 31.

The airline has said it is emailing all passengers whose flights are cancelled and has informed anyone booked to travel on dates up to and including Wednesday.

The situation has been exacerbated by Ryanair's confused messaging on the subject, with air traffic control strikes, and attempts to improve punctuality also blamed for the cancellations. When we make a mess-up at Ryanair, we come out with our hands up.

If your flight is cancelled, here are the following options that Ryanair are offering.

Irish Airline Pilot Association president Evan Cullen has said there are many reasons why the rostering problem has arisen for Ryanair - such as a global pilot shortage, that many Ryanair pilots are in the holding pools of other airlines, that many Ryanair pilots have resigned; and that there has been a significant rule change in how pilots' hours are calculated.

Below its "Always Getting Better" customer experience slogan on its website, Ryanair management says the airline is now connected to 33 countries, with 86 bases in Europe where it operates 400 new Boeing aircraft amd 2,000 daily flights.

The disruption is because of difficulties Ryanair is having managing a transition of its leave year from an April to March model to the calendar year of January to December as required by European regulations.

Ryanair last night published the full list of flight cancellation between this Thursday and the end of October and Malta does not feature so far. "By taking out one of the lines of flying out of those busier bases we will have many more alternatives to communicate to passengers", explains O'Leary.

News bulletins in Ireland ran interviews with disgruntled customers while newspapers asked readers to share their stories, including a wedding party who told the Irish Times they had been left stranded in France.

Analysts at Dublin-based Goodbody Stockbrokers estimated the cancellations would cost the airline about 34.5 million euros - comprising 23.5 million euros in compensation, 6.3 million euros in lost fees, and 4.7 million euros in subsistence such as meals, drinks and accommodation.

In what's believed to have been a militant meeting in Dublin, pilots made it clear they were willing to walk out rather than accept the continuing pressure of meeting flight schedules and dealing with other ongoing issues.

The fall in Ryanair's punctuality below 80% compared to an average of 89% in the three months to the end of June.

Shares in Ryanair, which fell by more than 3% in early trading, were 1.85% lower at 1430 GMT.
