Baggage handler charged with mischief for swapping people's luggage tags”

A baggage handler at Singapore's global airport allegedly swapped hundreds of baggage tags, sending luggage to the wrong destination.

Keh has since been charged with 286 counts of mischief after he was allegedly caught swapping the luggage tags at Singapore's Changi Airport.

Keh allegedly began moving baggage tags on November 8, 2016 when he traded the one on a piece of luggage bound for Penang with another bag.

Tay Boon Keh allegedly began swapping tags at Singapore's Changi Airport on November 8 previous year and continued for three months before his mischievous activities were eventually discovered.

Luggage originally bound for various parts of the world, including Perth, Manila, Frankfurt, London and San Francisco, was affected, according to court documents.

Passengers flying Singapore Airlines, SilkAir and Lufthansa were affected.

Responding to queries from The Straits Times, Changi Airport said this was an isolated case of mischief and there was no breach of aviation security at the Changi aerodrome.

"Nonetheless, we have enhanced access control as well as the CCTV coverage in the baggage handling area", the spokesperson told the Straits Times. "Patrols have also been stepped up", its spokesman was quoted as saying.

Tay Boon Keh is due back in court on October 17 and if convicted of the counts of mischief, faces up to a year in prison and a fine for every single charge.
