Former coaching colleagues face off when 49ers host Rams

Former coaching colleagues face off when 49ers host Rams”

Hoyer's untimely interceptions - and his failure to lead the 49ers into the end zone in their first two games for the first time in franchise history - have led to calls for backup QB C.J. Beathard.

Time to hit the panic button?

A year ago, the 49ers had the NFL's fourth-ranked rushing offense.

"The next couple of years we just really continued to grow in our friendship and I learned a lot from him". But 49ers fans have seen that before, and it hasn't gotten the team far in recent years.

"Whether he got this opportunity now, which he did, or eight years from now, Sean is going to adjust to the situation and rise to the challenge and I think he'll do a great job there".

Said Hoyer: "When you watch the film and you see you're an inch off here, an inch off there, I think that always drives you to be better". Depending on how they play is when you go deep. The Rams are slight favourites on the road in this spot which is an intriguing concept as the unofficial rule of point spreads that gives the home team a field goal would have this game sitting around five points in favour of the Rams if this one was in Los Angeles and in an NFC West division show down that looks like it is a ton of points, especially on a short week. San Francisco won the season finale that year against the Rams and then swept Los Angeles last season.

They appear to have recaptured their form. Carolina ranks first in the National Football League in total defense as a result.

Two games into the John Lynch/Kyle Shanahan regime, it's pretty clear what the San Francisco 49ers would like.

Most of all, there's a realization that it's early.

I think the 49ers defense will keep them in this game just like they have the first two weeks and the 49ers offense will do a little better than it has.

"He's done it before, he's done it in practice", Shanahan said.

Los Angeles ranked at No. 6 in the league in run defense DVOA, according to Football Outsiders, in 2016, but Sunday's showing against Washington indicated that strength against the run has not carried over into 2017 for a unit now headed by Wade Phillips.

So far, the excitement hasn't made the trip west. The 49ers seem perfectly willing to trade losses now for wins later. He said they are both passionate about football and run similar offenses, but there are some differences off the field.

But be careful what you wish for.
