Here's how you can get a discount on your Wetherspoons bill tomorrow”

The Bell Hotel is joining with other Wetherspoons from across the United Kingdom in taking 7.5% off its price's as part of National Tax Equality Day.

This will be welcome news for pub-goers in Sheffield, especially students either new to Sheffield or coming back to the city after a summer away.

Pubs including The Thomas Waghorn in Chatham and the Golden Lion in Rochester will be taking part in the celebrations as they cut both food and drink prices by 7.5%.

Wetherspoons will be protesting alongside thousands of other pubs tomorrow in honour of national Tax Equality Day which aims to highlight the benefit of a VAT reduction in the hospitality industry. On Tax Equality Day, customers in our pubs will find the price of their drinks and food to be lower than normal.

The discount means a meal and drinks which previously cost £10 will for one day only come in at £9.25.

Mr Martin said: "In a nutshell, we believe the government will create more tax and jobs if it equalizes tax, and will also benefit the United Kingdom socially by reversing the alarming trend of pub closures". It will create more jobs and raise the amount of taxes which the government receives, since pubs and restaurants pay more taxes and create more jobs than supermarkets do.

'It is a win-win situation for the government and our industry'.

Pubs also argue that supermarkets pay around 2 pence per pint of business rates, whereas pubs pay about 18 pence.

Pub bosses believe cutting Value-Added Tax to just 15% would create 78,000 new jobs in the hospitality trade.

However, Mr Martin did jokingly tell The Mancunion: "But don't stay so long in our pubs that you get behind with your studies, I beg you... my son went to Manchester University and lived in Fallowfield, so I'm speaking from experience..."
