Man Convicted In Killing Of Fox Exec Sentenced To 11 Years”

A convicted drug dealer was sentenced to 11 years in prison on Tuesday for killing former Fox executive Gavin Smith, whose remains were found two years after he disappeared. Prosecutors said he killed Smith in the West Hills area of the San Fernando Valley near Creech's home; Smith had been having an affair with Creech's wife after they had met in rehab.

John Lenzie Creech, 44, was convicted of voluntary manslaughter for the May 2012 beating death of Gavin Smith, who was missing for 2 1/2 years before his remains were found in a shallow grave in the Angeles National Forest in the Antelope Valley.

'Mr. Creech has shown no remorse in this case whatsoever, ' the judge said. Smith's remains were found in a shallow grave by a man walking with his dog on October 26 in a rural area on the south side of Palmdale near the border with Acton, according to authorities.

Creech was not found guilty of first- and second-degree murder - both charges that could have earned him life in prison.

Creech testified that Smith had thrown the first punch and he defended himself.

Investigators had initially linked Creech to Smith's disappearance when the latter's missing Mercedes-Benz was found parked in a storage facility that was linked with Creech.

Creech was serving an eight-year sentence for the sale or transportation of drugs when he was indicted for the killing.

Creech is facing a sentence of 11 years behind bars.

Smith was married and had three sons.
