Max Kennedy resolves case stemming from loud party, fireworks

Matthew "Max" Kennedy, was dismissed of criminal charges and served a $150 fine after his arrest in August.

Charges against Robert F. Kennedy's son were dropped Tuesday stemming from his wild drunken house party last month in MA. Police say 52-year-old Matthew Kennedy and his daughter, 22-year-old Caroline Kennedy, were taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct and violating the town's noise law, following complaints about a loud party and fireworks on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017.

Matthew Kennedy is the ninth child of Robert and Ethel Kennedy.

Police had alleged that Kennedy threw himself into a wall, smashed a shelf full of glass objects, and refused to cooperate when officers tried to place him in handcuffs while responding to a party in the early hours of August 20.

In a statement, Kennedy said he has the "utmost respect" for Barnstable police.

Kennedy reportedly responded to police by "screaming incoherently and throwing himself at the wall". She later admitted to being drunk, according to a police report that also claimed she told an officer, "I went to Brown and I'm a teacher - sweetheart!"

The officer who arrested him for disorderly conduct and a noise violation said that Kennedy had bloodshot and glassy eyes, though a breathalyzer test showed he had no alcohol in his system. They were both released later that night.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. defended his brother's behavior, telling the Cape Cod Times that Max "was sober as a judge" and "hasn't had a drink or drug in 35 years".
