U.S. to dispatch carrier strike group to Korean Peninsula again

U.S. to dispatch carrier strike group to Korean Peninsula again”

South Korea's Ministry of National Defense revealed the plan in a report submitted to the National Assembly on September 18 in light of North Korea's missile and nuclear provocations.

The administration of South Korean President Moon Jae-in had been emphasizing dialogue with North Korea and was cautious about having US strategic arms in his country.

"We are ready to consider it", Defense Minister Song Young-moo told lawmakers in July after North Korea succeeded in launching a Hwasong-14 missile, Pyongyang's first intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the contiguous US. "We consider any form of military solution as totally inappropriate and we insist on a diplomatic solution".

On the contrary, Moon Jae-in promised a more accommodating stance on Pyongyang before being elected president in May 2017.

A sixth nuclear test was also conducted earlier this month, when Kim Jong-Un's tyrannical regime tested what it termed a hydrogen bomb many times more powerful than its previous device.

"Now is not the time for dialogue".

Moon and Trump are scheduled to meet here Thursday for three-way talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Newsis' source said there are plans for the "U.S". "What's crucial now is to put sanctions into effect without lapses and that requires close cooperation with China and Russian Federation".

Seoul also installed four more THAAD missile defense systems in Seongju County, some 300km south of the South Korean capital, in addition to the two launchers already deployed there.

Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon is scheduled to meet with foreign investors in NY on Wednesday (local time) and intends to reassure the global financial community that the South Korean economy remains solid despite heightened tensions over North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.

Moon and Trump have shown differences in their approach to issues, especially when it came to whether to engage with North Korea. Since Pyongyang's sixth and largest nuclear test on September 3, however, Moon has said the time is not right for dialogue.

The United States maintained nuclear weapons in South Korea during much of the Cold War, but President George H.W. Bush ordered their removal after the Soviet Union's fall in 1991. "Our goal is the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and achieving peace".

The US and North Korea leaders also exchanged threats of mutual destruction.

Pyongyang believes it could be invaded by hostile forces, notably the United States, if its military power to defend itself diminishes.

Under an agreement with the U.S. struck in 2015, South Korea is banned from using its nuclear technology and materials for any military objective. We have tried to do this through dialogue, we have tried to do this through sanctions, we have tried every diplomatic measure that we possibly can. Hong "is saying he wants a battle with the US", Ha said.
