Virgin Trains launches first-class seat auction app

Virgin Trains launches first-class seat auction app”

Upgrades will initially be available on weekday services from King's Cross to Edinburgh, Newcastle, York and Leeds.

For customers whose bid is successful, the benefits of Virgin Trains" "first class experience" include complimentary food and drink from a menu "curated' by TV chef James Martin, reclining leather seats, additional legroom, mood lighting, free Wi-Fi and, in selected stations, first class lounges with free Wi-Fi, relaxation areas and refreshments.

The app, Seatfrog, will let passengers bid for First Class upgrades up to 30 minutes before departure, and could open the door for more people to enjoy luxury travel.

Auctions will begin approximately two and a half hours before departure and will end 30 minutes before the train departs.

Regular first class fares for London to Edinburgh journeys can cost nearly £90 more than standard class tickets - which aren't exactly cheap if you're not able to buy in advance. The passenger can then bid to win an upgrade in the auction.

Enter your existing booking reference: Open the Seatfrog app and enter your Virgin Trains booking reference for upcoming trips.

Passengers input their booking reference, the app notifies them as soon as a seat becomes available and customers start their bidding to win an upgrade. If available, there is also an "Upgrade Now" option.

'Our innovative partnership with Seatfrog means passengers can get last minute upgrades to First Class seats from as little as £5 and there are real deals to be had.

Passengers will be able to pick up an upgrade for as little as £5 through the auction and have their new ticket sent directly to their phone.

Seatfrog then issues a new ticket to the user's mobile device, which needs to be shown along with the original ticket.

Seatfrog is giving passengers the power to upgrade easily and transparently, in the palm of their hand.

But he warned customers who specifically want to travel in first class to buy a ticket as auctions would not be held across all services. If you definitely want to travel first class, it's still better to book your ticket in advance as Seatfrog can not guarantee a seat will be available on your service. "We give them the chance to get a really good deal".
