Asianet TV office attacked in Alappuzha

Asianet TV office attacked in Alappuzha”

Only the reporter of Alappuzha bureau and driver were in the office at the time of the incident. Asianet News senior sub editor TV Prasad was sleeping inside the office, but he did not suffer any injury, the report adds.

Sources in Asianet said the attack may have been a response to some reports aired by the channel that supposedly upset Kerala transport minister Thomas Chandy recently.

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan promised strong action to nab the culprits.

"A direction has been given to the police to conduct a robust probe and arrest the culprits involved in the attack", he said in a Facebook post.

Opposition leader in the Kerala Assembly Ramesh Chennithala has called it an "attack on the media freedom" and demanded a high level probe.

A special team led by an IG will probe the attack. DGP Loknath Behra said that the police hope to get some leads from a CCTV camera.

Ruling CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the accused should be brought to book as soon as possible.

BJP Kerala president Kummanam Rajasekharan said attacking media when it brings out "corruption and irregularities" can not be justified in a democracy.

The office of Asianet News in the district was attacked by a group of unidentified miscreants. "Stern action should be taken against those who have carried it out", said Shammy Prabhakar of Mathrubhumi News. Many journalists were killed in the past in various ways and it still continues. "I strongly protest the attack", said Saji Sugathan, a professional in Dubai.
