FCA recalls HD pickups, chassis cabs over potential engine compartment fire

FCA recalls HD pickups, chassis cabs over potential engine compartment fire”

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the company that manufactures Dodge vehicles, is recalling an estimated 443,712 heavy-duty pick up trucks in the US because of a potential fire hazard.

FCA said it would advise affected customers when service becomes available.

The recall is limited to vehicles equipped with optional eight-passenger seating.

FCA US is unaware of any related injuries, accidents, warranty claims or complaints.

Also subject to the campaign are an estimated 1,908 vehicles in Canada.

Fiat Chrysler says a water pump bearing can overheat under certain conditions, potentially leading to an engine fire. All 494,417 of the vehicles involved have 6.7-liter engines.

A warning light may activate if the water pump has been compromised, so customers should contact their dealer if a warning light is illuminated. It no longer uses the type of water pump involved in the recall.

The American automaker is aware of a small number of incidents involving fires and damage, but none extended beyond the immediate area of the water pump.
