Gett and Citymapper to launch new taxi-bus for London commuters

Gett and Citymapper to launch new taxi-bus for London commuters”

And the black cab carpooling service Gett Together, unveiled late previous year, lets people share a cab with someone going in the same direction. By inventing the bus. This idea is being explored by black-cab booking app Gett and urban travel planner Citymapper, in a collaboration to create a new fixed-route taxi service through London for a flat fare of £3, regardless of how long passengers travel along it.

The service, named BB1, will run between Highbury & Islington and Waterloo.

Gett's United Kingdom managng director Matteo de Renzi told City A.M. the first route is just the start of scaling up the service.

The route - chosen with the help of Citymapper's data on the way people move through London - will go through Angel, Farringdon and Aldwych.

According to Gett, its fixed-route services are now used by "thousands" of Londoners, with many using it frequently for their daily commute, rather than on an ad hoc basis. Gett quotes that a journey from Upper Street to Somerset House would take about 40 minutes on standard public transport, but using Gett Together it will only take five.

Gett launched its Together service in London in December 2016, partly in response to similar services from rival firms such as Uber.

The service advertises itself as a crowd-free alternative to public transport at a price comparable to it. It already operates three routes in London now starting in Ladbroke Grove, Clapham Junction and Belsize Park, but its new partnership with CityMapper allows it to use a massive amount of data in order to plan out the most effective routes to get commuters where they need to be, quicker than ever.

There are already other routes available around London, but this is the first time Gett Together is partnering with Citymapper to choose the routes that are needed most.
