Lucasfilm partners with six brands for 'Last Jedi' promotional campaign”

Lucasfilm and Disney's new digital series Science and Star Wars debuted today with its first episode focusing on the pop culture phenomena of lightsabers. Every morning when you wake up, you can stare into the mirror, see the images, and whisper "I am become Star Wars". However, J.J. Abrams' sudden emergence at the helm of this franchise finale was a direct breach of his contract that was re-negotiated at Paramount after he left to direct the 2015 blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

According to a report from Hollywood Reporter, the decision to sign on for another Star Wars film is not going over well with the home of Star Trek.

One studio insider fell down on the side of J.J. Abrams, believing that although he's not quite in the same pantheon as Spielberg - their words, not ours - Abrams is "a writer, producer and director".

During Abrams' tenure at Paramount, the studio has seen a nice $5.7 billion from Star Trek and Super 8 films. In 2013, Former Paramount head Brad Grey was also furious over the fact that Abrams had chose to direct The Force Awakens, after he had made a name for himself with Paramount.

For his troubles, THR reports that Gianopulos has received money from Disney to compensate the loss of Abrams. His commercial instincts, his gift for salesmanship and his skill with reboots have kept him in a rich movie deal at Paramount as well as a very rewarding TV deal at Warner Bros., even if neither studio is getting as much of his attention as they would like. And if Paramount didn't want to accommodate Abrams, someone else would snap him up "in a NY minute".

Sources in the director's camp state that he was enticed back into the Star Wars fold by a, "once-now-a-twice-in-a-lifetime opportunity", which all parties could appreciate and understand. "There aren't too many of those guys". "You do the right thing, and hopefully people repay that".
