Makhosi Khoza quits 'alien and corrupt' ANC”

"Standing here today, I tell you I am taking with me the good ANC I know".

"I am joining the new anti-corruption movement of society and faith based organisation", she said. I will not be led by leaders who have lost legitimacy and credibility.

"We need to draw a distinction between the ANC mission and the leaders that are now running the ANC".

She said she has made a decision to leave the party because it is no longer the organisation she knows.

"It's my well-considered view that nearly 80-90% of ANC leaders would have to replace their suits and dresses with orange overalls", she said.

Khoza said a "new‚ alien and corrupt ANC" kept people stuck in poverty. "There's no chance to survive unless as [ANCWL president] Bathabile Dlamini calls it, you have smallernyana skeletons". "That is the only self-correction that can happen", she continued, playing on ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe's repetition in media statements that the party will reflect on its errors and self-correct. At the time of her announcement, she was still facing a disciplinary hearing which had been postponed after she failed to make an appearance. Yes apartheid oppressed us.

Khoza has endured weeks of harassment by members of the governing party and was removed as chairperson of the portfolio committee on public service and administration owing to an "irretrievable breakdown of relations between herself and ANC members of the committee".

Mashatile said the ANC would emerge as a united front from the upcoming elective conference in December and would consist of dedicated leaders who would fight against state capture‚ corruption and seek to regain the confidence of many South Africans. She also thanked several women within the ANC for supporting her, these included Barbara Masekela, Gertrude Shope, Lindiwe Mabuza, Frene Ginwala, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and Sheila Sisulu.
