A man has set himself on fire outside Parliament in Wellington on Thursday afternoon. A Wellington Free Ambulance spokesperson said they received multiple calls at 3.50pm.

The protester is in a critical condition and being treated by ambulance staff.

In a statement, police said paramedics were treating the man now, who was in a critical condition.

Parliamentary Services said Parliament's forecourt and lawn hade been locked down and were being treated as a crime scene.
