New Apple Watch has cellular connectivity problems

New Apple Watch has cellular connectivity problems”

Several prominent reviewers said Wednesday they could not recommend the device because of cellular data connectivity glitches.

The new Apple Watch hasn't shipped yet, but it's already running into some issues.

Apple said the watch can experience LTE connectivity problems when it connects to open wi-fi networks that require a login screen, such as at a hotel or a coffee shop.

"We are investigating a fix for a future software release", the Apple statement says. The Watch has a tendency to connect to unknown WiFi networks instead of connecting to cellular.

Apple stock was down 2.1%, near 155.40, in afternoon trading on the stock market today, falling below their 50-day moving average, a key technical support level. It will be interesting to see how many other users have the same issue's Lauren Goode had with her review units.

Aside from a slight bump in its processor, the new Apple Watch is really riding on a single feature to make it appealing to those considering an upgrade, and that feature is LTE. Cellular connectivity is a major selling point for the Apple Watch Series 3's, and if that doesn't work as promised, users could avoid buying the device when it goes on sale Friday. Analysts say iPhone 8 demand has been muted by Apple's premium iPhone X, which will arrive in stores on November 3 after a week of preorders starting October 27. "That review takeaway is a negative but is not a surprise".

Apple also experienced hiccups with iOS 11, the new operating system the firm released Tuesday.

Apple declined to comment further when we contacted the company about the issue.
