Recalculating? GPS error leads to trucker driving on boardwalk”

Global Positioning System errors have left drivers in odd situations before, but one truck driver headed three miles up the boardwalk in New Jersey Wednesday.

According to the police chief, this is the second time in two months that a truck has come down the boardwalk in Ventnor.

An officer who saw the truck didn't initially think anything was wrong, but rather thought that the truck was part of a project meant to replenish the sand dunes in the area. Police said that the tractor trailer driver first drove onto the boardwalk at Albany Avenue in Atlantic City early Wednesday. The truck could not turn and damaged almost 100 feet of railings on the boardwalk. Like many odd events revolving around tractor-trailers, the entire ordeal left officers baffled about just how the truck navigated its way along the shoreline. "We will see what the report brings". "I have never seen an 18-wheeler".

The driver, 60-year-old Antonio Menjivar of Dallas, Texas, was issued a summons for off-road driving.

Kriebel praised the job the city's Public Works Department performed removing the tractor-trailer from the boardwalk.

The boardwalk is being inspected by engineers for structural damage, and the unidentified driver's trucking company will responsible for any expenses surrounding the incident, police said.
