Sean Spicer on his surprise Emmys appearance: "It's an honor"

Sean Spicer on his surprise Emmys appearance:

Bill O'Reilly, a frequent Trump defender, said the audience at the Emmy Awards was smug.

"The Late Show" host, 53, kicked off the show with a musical number and a monologue that featured a surprise appearance from former White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

Earlier this month a report said that Spicer would not be offered a contract from Fox News, despite three former Obama press secretaries being hired after leaving the White House.

Social media users were fast enough to react to Trump's tweet, with some saying the president should get his priorities right and be more concerned about the quake in Mexico City rather than concentrating on the ratings of an award show. Both Ari Fleischer and Dana Perino, who served as press secretaries under George W. Bush, got gigs with the conservative news outlet following their departures from the White House.

It was really only a matter of time before the president chimed in on the Emmy Awards. "These Hollywood phonies kissing up to Sean Spicer are disgusting, I mean who does that?"

Liberal commentator Keith Olbermann tweeted that the Emmys lost its credibility by lionizing Spicer.

After the show, Spicer told EW that he had fun doing the appearance, even though "it's not exactly a Republican crowd".

Of course, with such moments, audience reactions inevitably follow, and it's safe to say this year's Emmy audience brought the facials, which were thankfully captured on camera.

Some fans of Colbert were also bewildered by the appearance. But - good news! - this year's low is slightly better than last year's all-time low! Spicer was photographed schmoozing with late night hosts Seth Meyers and James Corden (the latter was caught giving Spicer a kiss on the cheek), actor Alec Baldwin (who won an Emmy for his performance on Saturday Night Live mocking Spicer's former boss) and other entertainment industry figures. Needless to say, whether or not he kissed Spicer, Corden gets around.

If Spicer is trying to revamp his image through humor and apologizing for harassing the media, he isn't doing a great job of separating himself from those he used to be associated with. On the September 18 episode of The Late Late Show, Corden seemed to agree with this criticism while at the same time making jokes about the whole thing.
