Two women arrested in Wichita burglary case”

Just after 5p.m. Monday, police responded to a domestic violence call at a home in the 2900 Block of North Market in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.

The suspect, who was being held without bond, was arrested about half an hour after the shooting, police Sgt. Chad Beard said.

In a statement Tuesday night, Gov. Sam Brownback identified the worker as Cortney Holloway.

The 51-year-old suspect was booked into jail on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder after tax agent Cortney Holloway was shot several times around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday inside the taxation side of a state office building, The Wichita Eagle reports. "I ask everyone to join Mary [Brownback] and I in praying for Courtney and his family", stated Brownback. "I'm thankful for Courtney's work and thankful for the police officers who apprehended the suspect".

CBS affiliate KWCH 12 News reported that a state tax warrant from the Sedgwick County Courthouse had asked the sheriff to seize the house of the man identified as the suspect and return the money to the state by selling it. Documents claimed that the man did not pay his taxes between June 2012 and July 2015, amounting to nearly $200, 000.

The warrants are for tax periods spanning June 2012 to July 2015. It also referenced a previous notice.

Two women have been arrested in the east part of Wichita, following an investigation by police department burglary detectives, and the Special Investigations Bureau. They have not released the suspect's name, but did confirm the suspect was the focus of a KDOR investigation earlier in the day.

Robert Choromanski, executive director of the Kansas Organization of State Employees, said workers who were in the office at the time of the shooting described the scene to him. The driver's license office next door will be closed Wednesday, but reopen Thursday for normal operations.
