United Kingdom lowers threat level, two held over bomb

United Kingdom lowers threat level, two held over bomb”

British police have arrested a third suspect in connection with the bomb that partially exploded on a London subway last week.

Scotland Yard said magistrates had granted warrants allowing the 18-year-old to be held until Saturday, and Farroukh until Thursday.

Images published on Sunday night appeared to show Farroukh being arrested by police in Hounslow after a struggle, and officers are understood to have begun searching the chicken shop soon after.

One of the prime suspects held by British police over the Parsons Green blast was identified by his hat. Neither has been charged.

She said the threat level had been lowered to "severe" from "critical", meaning another attack was highly likely rather than expected imminently.

"There are now two searches continuing at addresses in Hounslow and Surrey and we are getting a greater understanding of the preparation of the device", Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley, head of counter terrorism policing, said in a statement.

The arrests, in the city of Newport in South Wales, bring the total number of people in custody to five.

The Jones couple were previously honored by Queen Elizabeth II for serving as foster parents for hundreds of children, including refugees from the Middle East. The leader of the local authority was quoted as saying the 18-year-old was an Iraqi who had come to Britain as an orphan.

A neighbor, Serena Barber, 47, told the Telegraph that police had confronted the unruly 18-year-old within the past two weeks, and foster parents Penny and Ron Jones were at their wits' end over how to deal with him.

The two suspects were both arrested on Saturday. It said he began attending courses when he was 17 to learn English.

People who saw Tuesday's police activity in Newport said officers pounced on the suspect.

Officials say the forensic evidence raises new questions about the attack, such as whether the bucket bomb used in the attack was a type of explosive created to release deadly chemicals.

"The police were there multiple times over the span of about a month - a few times a week", Griffiths said.

"You always think foster kids are going to have a bit of trouble, but you don't think terrorism", he added.

It comes as CCTV images emerged showing a man carrying a Lidl supermarket bag 90 minutes before the bombing. Police have asked the traveling public to be vigilant and to expect to see an increase in armed police. Numerous victims suffered burns.

The attack was claimed by the Islamic State terror group.

Friday's bombing was the fifth major attack regarded by authorities as a terrorist incident in Britain this year which have claimed the lives of 36 people.
