Valerie Plame Wilson Tweets 'America's Jews Are Driving America's Wars'”

Valerie Plame Wilson, the former undercover Central Intelligence Agency operative whose identity was leaked to the public in response to her opposition to the Iraq War, apologized Thursday after she apparent defended her retweet of an anti-Semitic article alleging "Jews" are to blame for "America's wars".

Plame shared a link Thursday morning from "alternative media" site The Unz Review with the headline "America's Jews Are Driving America's Wars".

Wilson's identity as an operative was leaked in 2003 by a Bush administration official out of retribution for criticism made by her husband - former diplomat Joe Wilson - over Bush's decision to invade Iraq.

"American Jews who have taken upon themselves the onerous task of starting a war with a country that does not conceivably threaten the United States", Giraldi wrote. According to the Washington Examiner, the Anti-Defamation League noted in 2014 that Unz publicizes ideas promoted by anti-Semites and supports anti-Israel ideologies, but does not appear to be anti-Semitic himself.

Here is a passage from the article that Plame retweeted.

Following backlash, Plame Wilson defended herself in a series of tweets that pointed out she had a Jewish background.

"1) First of all, calm down". Yes, very provocative, but thoughtful. "Indeed, I would opine that most of the fury from Congress re Iran comes from the same source, with AIPAC showering our Solons on the Potomac with "fact sheets" explaining how Iran is worthy of annihilation because it has pledged to "destroy Israel". There are simply too many who are so ready to go to war.

"I missed gross undercurrents to this article & didn't do my homework on the platform this piece came from".

She eventually apologized for the share, calling the post "problematic" and saying, "I messed up".

Plame Wilson's tweet will surely leave her open to a barrage of attacks and criticisms.

She thanked those who urged her to look at the piece again.

Ironically, early in the shared piece Giraldi notes that "any organization that aspires to be heard on foreign policy knows that to touch the live wire of Israel and American Jews guarantees a quick trip to obscurity".
