Walker Issues State Budget Vetoes”

They include the removal of a provision that would have allowed low-spending school districts to raise property taxes, if they spend less than the state average per student.

"I am severely disappointed in Gov".

The System does receive a $31,500,000 funding boost. "The veto will continue this funding imbalance and have lasting impacts on the quality of education available to some of our children".

The Wisconsin state budget passed by the Legislature on Friday night is now in the hands of Gov. Scott Walker, who could issue vetoes at any point. The budget committee attempted to save it but the Supreme Court quit funding it after the council's executive committee gave its attorney a raise of more than $22,000.

One such controversial measure changes how schools fund special education open enrollment and the special needs scholarship program.

Neenah Joint School District's communications manager says Tullar fourth and fifth graders will attend the budget signing ceremony.

"Not vetoing that section will have a lasting impact on how those particular students, students with disabilities, are educated by districts, and it was a huge missed opportunity that I'm fairly certain the Legislature and governor will come to regret", McCarthy said.

- ELECTIONS COMMISSION: Walker cut five positions at the Elections Commission, which would have cost $304,000 annually, saying the commission has been working effectively with fewer staffers and can more cheaply manage busy times by hiring temporary workers or contractors. He also cut the daily stipend for members of the Elections Commission and Ethics Commission to $27.

Numerous other vetoes are descirbed as 'technical'.

The governor also vetoed a $5 million cap for historic rehabilitation projects, lowering it to $500,000 per land parcel.

Walker followed through on a series of vetoes he promised to three Republican senators to secure the passage of the budget.

He also cut $2.5 million to study interstate tolling, although that could still be pursued, and he also did away with changes that would have eliminated local control of rock quarries. It includes several he already agreed to in order to help get the bill through the state Senate last week - such as moving up the start date of a prevailing wage repeal and changes to restrictions on school district referendums.

Today, Gov. Scott Walker, on the two year anniversary of the suspension of his 71-day run for President, signed the 76-day late 2017 state budget into law.
