Why David Lynch Rejected Nine Inch Nails' First 'Twin Peaks' Song Offering

Why David Lynch Rejected Nine Inch Nails' First 'Twin Peaks' Song Offering”

Band members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross recently opened up about their collaboration with David Lynch on "Twin Peaks: The Return" - a project that they really didn't need much persuading to join. "Twin Peaks" executive producer Sabrina Sutherland revealed on Reddit earlier this month that Bowie gave Lynch his approval, but now the director is explaining Bowie's appearance in his own words. Reznor reports that Lynch called him over the Twin Peaks series, telling him, "Write a song, and I'll see ya in a couple of weeks".

Speaking to Pitchfork, Lynch went in depth on Bowie's return to Twin Peaks, with his character of Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Phillip Jeffries first appearing in the 1992 Twin Peaks film Fire Walk with Me. Because we didn't know any more than anybody else'.

If you also thought Bowie's return seemed a little off, especially when it came to his actual voice, there's a very good reason for that.

We got permission to use the old footage, but he didn't want his voice used in it. I think someone must have made him feel bad about his Louisiana accent in 'Fire Walk With Me, ' but I think it's so lovely. He also confirmed, as most fans predicted, that Bowie had no knowledge of the new form his character would take, though Lynch did not clarify whether the machine-Jeffries concept came to him before or after Bowie's death.

During a recent interview on Chicago's 101WKQX, Trent Reznor explained how Lynch made a decision to switch up his original plans: "We wrote a different song initially, and [Lynch] said, "How about something less 'Twin Peaks-y" sounding, and more aggressive and ugly, '" Reznor said before adding that Lynch wanted the track to "make my hair stand on end".

He was unique, like Elvis was unique. The guy [voice actor Nathan Frizzell] did a great job.

At this point, it's unclear if Twin Peaks will ever be coming back for yet another series.
