ALERT: Weather service issues heat advisory for metroā€¯

The National Weather Service has issues a heat advisory for the metro Twin Cities and all of southern Minnesota.

Weekend temperatures will moderate slightly, with highs in the mid-80s expected along with a continuing chance of thunderstorms. If you're outdoors, you should watch for symptoms of heat-related illnesses, such as swelling, rashes, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the aggravation of other health conditions.

Unseasonably hot weather for the first day of fall as led to a heat advisory for most of Iowa, and may break records throughout the state.

Forecasters say high temperatures climbing into the 90s mixed with high humidity will push the heat index to around 100 degrees in some places. Drink plenty of fluids...stay in an air-conditioned room...stay out of the sun...and check up on relatives and neighbors. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
