Honda Odyssey gets top IIHS and NHTSA safety ratings”

M - When shopping for a vehicle, safety often takes priority for families, and Honda is delivering with its new minivan. The redesigned-for-2018 Odyssey earned top crash-test scores from both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The IIHS called the van a Top Safety Pick+ for 2018, its highest award. It additionally earned the top "superior" score for front crash prevention thanks to the Honda Sensing suite of active safety technologies, which includes features like Collision Mitigation Braking System with Forward Collision Warning as well as Adaptive Cruise Control.

The Odyssey Elite and Touring trims earned an Acceptable rating for their LED reflector headlights. In track tests at 12 miles per hour and 25 miles per hour, the Odyssey with Honda Sensing avoided collisions.

The Odyssey achieved a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score in the NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program by scoring 5 stars in the frontal crash tests for driver and passenger, 5 stars for side crash tests for both front and rear seats and pole, and 4 stars in the rollover test.

One of the Odyssey's key competitors, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, also earned IIHS's Top Safety Pick Plus designation, but the award only applies to models built after August 2016.

Independent testers at the insurance-industry funded IIHS gave the minivan top "Good" scores in every crash test, including the notoriously hard small overlap test, which simulates a forward collision at 40 miles per hour with a small stationary object such as a tree or light pole that focuses the impact on a small area in front of the driver.
