Nikki Haley on North Korea: 'We're Not Going to Run Scared'”

Nikki Haley, the USA ambassador to the United Nations, said Sunday with the United States exhausting diplomatic means against North Korea, "military options" are an alternative.

"We have pretty much exhausted all the things that we could do at the Security Council at this point", she said of the measure, which the president had called "another very small step".

Haley told CNN's Dane Bash she would be "perfectly happy" turning things over to U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.

"We saw the President's address to the general assembly and I think it showed the strength of the United States... and it asked all the countries to come together as we fight these rouge regimes, mainly North Korea and Iran", Haley continued. "If that doesn't work, General [Jim] Mattis will take care of it".

The DPRK confirmed that it conducted another medium-range ballistic missile test on Friday.

"We really have to move with a great deal of urgency, on sanctions, on diplomacy, and on preparing, if necessary, a military option", Mr McMaster said in a separate appearance on Fox News Sunday.

South Korean F-15Ks and Japanese F-2s accompanied the United States planes, the statement said.

In light of North Korea's failure to live up to denuclearization pledges made to Japan, South Korea, the US, China and Russian Federation in 2003 and "its continuing missile launches and nuclear tests", Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe wrote in a Sunday New York Times column, "more dialogue with North Korea would be a dead end". Haley said that wasn't an empty threat from the president but, when asked, she declined to describe the president's intentions.

North Korea has often announced it needs its nuclear and missile development program as a deterrent against expansionist policies of the United States and its allies. Facing an escalating nuclear threat from North Korea and the mass flight of minority Muslims from Myanmar, world leaders gather at the United Nations starting Monday, Sept. 18 to tackle these and other tough challenges _ from the spread of terrorism to a warming planet.

Earlier in the morning, Mr Trump took to Twitter to seemingly taunt North Korean leader Kim Jong-un - referring to him as "Rocket Man" - and suggest that sanctions were having an effect, writing that "long gas lines are forming in North Korea".

A North Korean government entity said last week that Japan "should be sunken into the sea by the nuclear bomb" of the regime and warned it would "reduce the USA mainland to ashes and darkness".
