Right-wing 'Free Speech Week' at Berkeley now collapsing into a sad 'sh*tshow'

Right-wing 'Free Speech Week' at Berkeley now collapsing into a sad 'sh*tshow'”

The University of California system is prepared to pay at least $300,000 to aid its Berkeley campus with security costs in preparation for the upcoming "Free Speech Week". The UC system is now pitching in to help with a large amount of cash.

"Free speech is not free, it turns out".

A four-day parade of right-wing speakers, events and appearances by "alt-right" icons like Steven Bannon and longtime far-right provocateurs including Ann Coulter has collapsed into a disorganized mess with its would-be participants pointing the finger of blame in all directions.

According to new reports in Vanity Fair and Mediaite, after student organizers failed to file the proper paperwork to reserve university buildings, and after Yiannopolous apparently neglected to notify some of the scheduled speakers that the event was even happening, the affair has been reduced to a Saturday press conference in San Francisco.

"Free speech is not free, it turns out", UC President Janet Napolitano said in an interview with the Times. Major attention is being put onto the expected crowds and security.

Similarly - considering the uncertainty surrounding the event on both sides (on both sides), I have chose to withdraw my name from Berkeley Free Speech Week's schedule on the seemingly likely chance that something impedes the event and it becomes lost work time on the projects I'm now engaging in. All speeches will be outside in Sproul Plaza.

Mogulof likewise told the Times that while the university is willing to accept its obligation to accommodate speakers, its patience for the associated security expenses is wearing thin.
