Rutgers Receives 2 Years of Probation for NCAA Violations”

After a 2-year investigation into the Rutgers football program, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has issued a final ruling in regards to the penalties the program will incur. The NCAA ruled Friday that the athletic department failed to monitor the football program's drug-testing program over a five-year period, former coach Kyle Flood failed to monitor his operations staff, and Flood failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance by contacting a special instructor when making arrangements for a student-athlete.

The NCAA has placed Rutgers on two-year probation and publicly reprimanded and censured the university for failing to monitor its football program over a five-year period between 2011 and 2015. Flood and an unnamed former assistant coach were each hit with one-year show cause penalties that essentially prevent them from being employed in college athletics over the next year.

A three-game suspension for the former head coach during the 2015 football season (self-imposed by the university).

Flood was sacked by Rutgers in November 2015. Another violation in the football program occurred when a former assistant football coach acted unethically when he was not truthful about a recruiting contact during his interviews with NCAA enforcement staff.

"The former head coach took a casual approach to compliance as it relates to the host program", the panel said in its decision. The NCAA sent Rutgers a notice at the end of 2016, notifying them of multiple violations.

A one-year show-cause period for former assistant coach Darrell Wilson from September 22, 2017, through September 21, 2018.

- A reduction in the number of off-campus recruiting days by a total of 10 during 2017-18, with five days in the fall evaluation period and five in the spring evaluation period.

A $5,000 fine (self-imposed by the university). There are no scholarship reductions and no postseason ban.
