These 4 Letters Mean You're Going to Have a Bad Time

These 4 Letters Mean You're Going to Have a Bad Time”

The message means that airline passengers have been selected for a Secondary Security Screening which means they face extra security checks.

It means you'll have to get your pass from the desk and face extra bag searches, pat downs and identity validation all conducted by the Transportation Security Administration.

According to Lifehacker, there is a multitude of reasons you can get stuck with an SSSS, though all com back to a passenger being considered "high-risk" - but don't worry too much, this is all only of concern to people travelling in and out of America.

"SSSS" stands for Second Security Screening Selection and means that you won't be able to print your boarding card out at home or from an airport kiosk.

Those with the unusual mark on their boarding passes are said to be picked at random, but some tourists have already complained they have been pulled aside nearly every time they've travelled to the US since the scheme began.

For those who find themselves with an SSSS on their ticket repeatedly, there is something you can do.

While being added to the SSSS list is supposed to be random there are claims that travellers get branded if they pay for a plane ticket by using cash or regularly buying one-way tickets.

However, security officials insist the move will allow them to trace potentially unsafe individuals from entering or leaving the USA.

The secondary security process was introduced after the 9/11 terror attacks to provide better monitoring of potentially risky individuals who enter or leave the U.S.

It's quite hard to get off the SSSS list, but anyone who wants to can appeal against the decision.
