Bayern Munich held to 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg in Bundesliga

Bayern Munich held to 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg in Bundesliga”

Bayern squandered a two-goal lead and shared the spoils with Wolfsburg following a two-all draw at the opener of the 6th round in Bundesliga on Friday.

The home side started in ominous fashion with Arturo Vidal and Jerome Boateng both seeing goal-bound efforts blocked inside the opening few minutes.

The Bavarians, who travel to Paris St Germain in the Champions League next week, struggled for much of the first half before Robert Lewandowski, who two years ago had scored a league record five goals in nine minutes against Wolfsburg, put the hosts ahead with a 33rd-minute penalty.

German champions Bayern Munich will have to be without the services of their ace goalkeeper Manuel Neuer after he sustained an injury in training at the beginning of the week.

They even managed to carve out a half-chance of their own, but Arnold was unable to keep his left-footed strike from long distance on target.

Brought down in the box by Marcel Tisserand, Lewandowski coolly slotted the ball past Koen Casteels to score his seventh goal in six games this season.

There was also a huge slice of luck about Bayern's second, which arrived just before the break. Given space on the edge of the area, the Dutchman's low shot ricocheted off Rafinha to wrongfoot Casteels and make it 2-0.

And the impressive midfielder pulled one back in the 56th minute.

Robben fired wide when clean through at the other end moments later.

And those missed opportunities came back to haunt Bayern as Paul Verhaegh's cross from the right picked out the on-running Didavi, who guided an inch-perfect header in off the far post to earn his side an unlikely point. The Italian tactician did not manage the second half properly, losing two points in the process.
