Champion UNC basketball team won't visit White House, spokesman says”

North Carolina will not make a trip to the White House to commemorate its national championship victory, as the team and the White House could not agree on a date, reports the News & Observer.

North Carolina's stated issue is different, as team spokesman Steve Kirschner told the News & Observer that a scheduling conflict is why the Tar Heels will not visit the White House.

The Tar Heels, who beat Gonzaga in April to win their latest national title, visited the White House after their 2009 championship. "They invited us in September (2005) when they were doing a lot of teams".

Trump ignited a cross-cultural firestorm with his comments about protesting National Football League players on Friday night and then his tweets about the Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry on Saturday morning.

Kirschner also said the players "were fine with going" if the two sides could have reached an agreement. "We offered up eight or nine dates, but none of them worked". And we did go in '09.

On Saturday morning, the president responded to Curry's desire not to visit the White House.

Dawn Staley, coach of the NCAA champion SC women's basketball team, said she would go to the White House if an invitation was extended, though she would give her players the option of not going. "Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!"

Earlier this year, North Carolina coach Roy Williams was critical of the president's social media habits, saying, in part, "Our president tweets out more bulls- than anybody I've ever seen".

LeBron James, whose Cleveland Cavaliers lost to Curry's Warriors in the NBA Finals, then wrote a Twitter post of his own, in which James called Trump "a bum". "We've got social media".
