NKorea bomb test would draw tough response

"Maybe something gets worked out and maybe it doesn't", Trump said. The agency released a photo of the North Korean leader reading the statement. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was "deeply concerned by an escalation of tensions". "But the president has made it very clear, as he did at the U.N. this week, that all options are on the table and we are simply not going to tolerate a rogue regime in Pyongyang obtaining usable nuclear weapons that could be mounted on a ballistic missile and threaten the people of the United States or our allies".

Hours later, North Korea's foreign minister reportedly said that his country may be planning to test a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean.

It could also draw the USA into taking preventive military action.

He said: "I am now thinking hard about what response he could have expected when he allowed such eccentric words to trip off his tongue".

Tensions between North Korea and the United States have flared up again, with threats from both sides becoming alarmingly regular.

And like Donald Trump had warned North Korea last month that if it escalated nuclear threat, it would be met with fire and fury like the world had never seen, Kim concluded that the North Korean fire would surely and definitely tame Donald Trump.

"The "Rocket Man" should have been handled a long time ago".

"The exchange of blusters may indicate that both sides want to compel the other side to back down with the assumption that the other side prefers a diplomatic solution to the current situation", said Bong Young-shik, with the Yonsei University Institute for North Korean Studies in Seoul.

Calling Kim a "madman" and "Rocket Man", he first threatened Pyongyang with "fire and fury", but this week scaled up, saying Washington would "totally destroy" the North if it threatened the USA or its allies.

But this is a far cry from North Korea at its worst. Putting "neukdari" into a popular online Korean-English dictionary in South Korea returns two English equivalents: an "aged (old) person" and a "dotard".

U.S. President Donald Trump ordered new sanctions on Thursday that open the door wider to blacklisting people and entities doing business with North Korea, including its shipping and trade networks, further tightening the screws on Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs.

But the North Korean leader said remarks by the "deranged" US President convinced him he is right to develop weapons for North Korea.

The president's warning Friday morning followed his announcement a day earlier of an executive order expanding the Treasury Department's authorities to sanction businesses and individuals who do business with the North Korean government. He used the same nickname he used for North Korea's leader at the U.N. General Assembly this week.

Beijing has supported increasing United Nations sanctions but has objected to unilateral measures.

If the Trump administration were pushed into a corner, it could lash out at North Korea via cyber-warfare, covert action, or even more aggressive tactics to increase its ability to shoot down Kim's missiles or destroy them before launch.
