S&P inches up as nerves about healthcare, N. Korea wane”

Tensions between the two countries escalated as North Korea said on Thursday that it may consider testing a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean. While geopolitical tensions have been elevated, some analysts said the stock market has become desensitized to the threats the USA and North Korea.

The latest spike in tensions prompted demand for gold, which rebounded from a four-week low on Friday.

Apple fell 1 percent, marking its third straight day of declines after the iPhone 8 failed to attract interest, according to analysts.

It was widely expected that the Fed may raise rates by the end of December. Investors were also evaluating the central bank's decision to begin reducing its roughly $4.2 trillion in treasury bonds and mortgage-backed securities. For the week, the Dow rose 0.4%, the S&P rose 0.1%, and the Nasdaq fell 0.3%.
