Talk of tougher North Korea sanctions”

Nikki Haley, the United States ambassador to the UN, said on Sunday the UN Security Council has run out of options on containing North Korea's nuclear programme - and the U.S. may now turn to the Pentagon. Any man who can get a cast member from MTV's "Jersey Shore" to roast him on cable television is clearly a connoisseur of fine comedy.

North Korea said Saturday it was bent on nothing less than military "equilibrium" with the United States.

In a phone call over the weekend, President Trump and South Korea's Moon Jae-in agreed to intensify economic and diplomatic pressure against Pyongyang over its repeated nuclear and missile tests. "If that doesn't work, General Mattis will take care of it", Haley told CNN's Dana Bash on "State of the Union". "I think that a lot of effort is being put into this".

The president's Twitter swipe came two weeks after Kim's regime undertook its biggest nuclear test to date, an explosion that analysts estimate at 250 kilotons, almost 17 times the size of the atomic bomb that devastated Hiroshima in 1945. The White House said Trump and Moon discussed North Korea's continued defiance of the worldwide community and "committed to continuing to take steps to strengthen deterrence and defense capabilities and to maximize economic and diplomatic pressure".

Kim has threatened Guam, a United States territory in the Pacific, and has fired two missiles over Japan, a USA ally in Asia, including one missile launched on Friday. "That is where the rockets and missiles are coming from, is North Korea". Haley said that wasn't an empty threat from the president but, when asked, she declined to describe the president's intentions. But she added that military options remain on the table: "If North Korea keeps on with this reckless behavior and if the USA has to defend itself or its allies in any way, North Korea will be destroyed".

"None of us want war", Haley added in an interview on CNN. "But we also have to look at the fact that you are dealing with someone who is being reckless, irresponsible and is continuing to give threats not only to the United States, but to all their allies, so something is going to have to be done". The White House has denied reports that Trump has changed his mind about withdrawing the US from the accord.

The White House denied Saturday that Trump's position had changed. Following Trump's announcement that the United States would withdraw from a landmark 2015 global agreement to fight climate change, several high-level gatherings are planned on the sidelines of the General Assembly to bolster the deal.

After Friday's attack in London, Trump tweeted that "the travel ban into the United States should be far larger, tougher and most specific-but stupidly, that would not be politically correct!" "The United Nations, of course, holds tremendous potential to realize its founding ideals, but only if it's run more efficiently and effectively", McMaster said on Friday. We're looking at what's going on. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Sunday his country would not be bullied by the United States and would react strongly to any "wrong move" by Washington on the nuclear deal.

Trump plans to meet with Moon and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during the U.N. General Assembly session this week.

Tillerson stressed that the threat is growing as North Korea advances its technology and capability. Trump's United Nations ambassador, Nikki Haley, said North Korea was starting to "feel the pinch".
