UC Berkeley says 'Free Speech Week' event canceled

UC Berkeley says 'Free Speech Week' event canceled”

While Yiannopoulos and Berkeley Patriot have repeatedly blamed the school for putting up roadblocks, school officials pointed to a recent peaceful appearance by the conservative writer Ben Shapiro as evidence the school supports all student events and said the organizers missed a host of deadlines to secure indoor venues for the speakers.

Yiannopoulos is expected to address the issue at a press conference in San Francisco Saturday afternoon.

Though it seemed yesterday that Milo Yiannopoulos was nearly certainly planning to pull out of his imagined three-ring circus of alt-right speech-making called Free Speech Week, he continues to insist in a Facebook Live press conference that he will come to UC Berkeley on Sunday at noon, along with a couple of his other planned speakers, including anti-Muslim activist Pamela Gellar and InfoWars guy Mike Cernovich.

Milo Yiannopoulos attended a canceled free speech event at US Berkeley Saturday.

.

Earlier in the day, Yiannopoulos wrote a series of Facebook posts, including a picture of eight suitcases and Louis Vuitton duffle bag, indicating that he was en route to Berkeley.

"The situation at UC Berkeley has become downright physically risky this past year for conservative students who merely wish to exercise their God given rights to freedom of speech and association that are enshrined in the Constitution", alleged Marguerite Melo, one of the attorneys representing the Berkeley Patriot, in the complaint.

He also quashed assertions that the university was somehow to blame for the event's alleged cancelation.

Officials had prepared to spend more than $1 million on security for the events.

Some of the headline speakers, including Ann Coulter, have backed away from the event or said their names were listed as speakers without their knowledge.

In the live event, where he appeared alongside anti-Islam activist Pamela Geller and right-wing pundit Mike Cernovich, Yiannopoulos said he would continue with the events "with or without student help".
