China's central bank tells banks to stop doing business with North Korea

China's central bank tells banks to stop doing business with North Korea”

In a statement on its website, China's natural disaster administration said the quake was recorded at a depth of zero kilometers and described it as a "suspected explosion". The USGS measured this month's nuclear test at magnitude 6.3.

There have been concerns about the stability of the nuclear test site since the September 3 test. Website 38 North said satellite imagery taken after that test appeared to show landslides atop the site that were more numerous and widespread than after the previous five tests.

The CENC says the quake was likely caused by an artificial explosion, as it took place in the same location where North Korea's sixth nuclear test occurred, Beijing's Xinhua News Agency reported.

North Korea has been maintaining a torrid pace in nuclear and weapons tests as it accelerates its pursuit of nuclear weapons that could viably target the United States and its allies in Asia.

"We can not conclusively confirm at this time the nature (natural or human-made) of the event", it said.

A second tremor soon after that test was possibly caused by a "cave-in", CENC said at the time.

The US Geological Survey said it could not conclusively confirm whether the quake, which it measured at magnitude 3.5, was man-made or natural.

"He must recognize peace can be achieved only on the basis of power", Jeong Yong-ki, a spokesman of the LKP, told reporters, calling for stern policy towards the North. "Analysis ongoing", CTBTO Executive Secretary Lassina Zerbo said in a Twitter post, referring to Sept 3 test.

The sources said lenders were asked to fully implement United Nations sanctions against North Korea and were warned of the economic losses and reputational risks if they did not do so.

On Thursday, North Korea struck back at U.S. President Donald Trump's threats to destroy it, with Kim warning of the "highest level of hard-line countermeasure in history" and his foreign minister suggesting that could include testing a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean. "As such, we refuse to handle any individual loans connected to North Korea".
