Damir Dzumhur stuns Fabio Fognini to win St. Petersburg Open

Damir Dzumhur stuns Fabio Fognini to win St. Petersburg Open”

He was a finalist in the 2012 edition of the tournament and will take on unseeded Dzumhur, who downed eighth-seeded Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany 6-3 7-5.

Having fallen to Roberto Bautista Agut in his debut final in Winston-Salem last month, Dzumhur showed few nerves this time around as he broke again in the third set and eased to a maiden triumph.

Damir Dzumhur claimed his first ATP World Tour title after he completed an impressive comeback against Fabio Fognini at the St. Petersburg Open on Sunday.

"I was very nervous in the first set and couldn't find my game, while Fabio played good", Dzumhur said.

Fognini also beat Bautista Agut in July at Gstaad, where he won his fourth career title, all on clay.

However, the Italian hit back, saving two match points to win 2-6 7-6 (9-7) 7-6 (7-5), painfully reminding Bautista Agut of previous defeats at this stage against Milos Raonic and Stan Wawrinka. That included his serve in the opening game of the decider, and a second break in the seventh game helped sealed victory for Dzumhur.
