Russian Federation tells North Korea, US 'hot heads' to calm down

Russian Federation tells North Korea, US 'hot heads' to calm down”

"There is still hope for peace and we must not give up".

Today, Lavrov said, "our relations are contracting due to Russo-phobic hysteria".

The Russian foreign ministry said in a statement that they discussed "topical issues of the regional and bilateral agenda" during the meeting on Wednesday, according to news agency Tass.

Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AH Mahmud Ali asked for cooperation on the issue during a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in NY on Wednesday.

A day earlier, Zarif had met with counterparts from the six other signatories to the deal - Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States - on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in NY.

"Everyone is witnessing with alarm today the newer and newer restrictions by the US against Iran", Lavrov told the U.N. General Assembly annual gathering of world leaders.

Calling the exchange of threats "quite bad", Lavrov said "it is unacceptable to simply sit back and to look at the nuclear and military gambles of North Korea, but it is also unacceptable to start war on the peninsula".

The efforts of certain countries to mediate the situation on the peninsula are welcome, and certain "neutral European countries" are ready to play that role, the Russian diplomat said.

Wang said he "welcomes" such an initiative and officials from the two governments will arrange the proposed trip. It would halt North Korean nuclear and missile tests in exchange for the USA and South Korea stopping their joint military exercises, but the Trump administration has rejected it.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to declare Iran to be in breach of the 2015 deal unless it is expanded to punish Iran for pursuing a ballistic missile program and for sponsoring foreign militant groups. "Opening up this plan for negotiations basically would be disregarding this agreement", he added. "We have to calm down the hot heads", Lavrov said, adding that he was convinced a Russian-Chinese proposal could still pave the way for a diplomatic solution to the North Korea crisis.

If the Iran nuclear deal falls apart, he said, "then North Korea would say, 'why do I need to negotiate with you if you do not carry out your promises?'"
