Seismic activity detected in North Korea near nuclear testing site”

Seoul's Meteorological Administration assessed the quake as natural, while China called the earthquake a "suspected explosion".

China on Saturday announced that it would restrict oil exports to North Korea from October 1 and also suspend textile imports from Pyongyang.

At the UN, Ri said that Trump had made a missile attack on the U.S. mainland more inevitable by insulting the dignity of North Korea. North Korea has one nuclear test site - Punggye-ri. North Korea will be feeling the pain of new United Nations' sanctions targeting some of its biggest remaining foreign revenue streams, like textiles, joint ventures and remittances from its legion of workers overseas.

On Sept. 15, North Korea launched an intermediate-range missile that flew over Japan in its longest-ever flight.

China's official Xinhua News Agency said earlier that its seismic service detected a magnitude 3.4 quake in North Korea and saw the likely cause as an explosion.

USGS put the epicentre of the quake 22 km (14 miles) east-northeast of Sungjibaegam, North Korea, near the country's main nuclear test site. The Pentagon said no other USA fighters or bomber aircraft have flown so far north of the Demilitarized Zone off North Korea's coast in the 21st century.

Textiles are one of North Korea's last major sources of foreign revenue following repeated rounds of United Nations sanctions under which Beijing cut off purchases of coal, iron ore, seafood and other goods.

China and Russian Federation initially opposed measures to restrict oil exports to North Korea, but then agreed to reduced measures.

"Trump labeled Kim a "madman" and taunted him as 'rocket man", while in a rare personal statement this week Kim lashed out, and referred to Trump as "mentally deranged" and a "dotard".

China now accounts for roughly 90% of North Korea's trade, making it a critical trading partner. Satellite photos of the area after the September 3 quake showed numerous landslides apparently caused by the massive blast, which North Korea said was an advanced hydrogen bomb.

On Thursday Trump announced new USA sanctions that he said allows the targeting of companies and institutions that finance and facilitate trade with North Korea.

China has always been the North's only major ally and diplomatic protector but is expressing increasing frustration with the government of Kim Jong Un.

"It is assumed that the earthquakes occurred because of North Korea's latest nuclear test", Park said.
