Sushma Swaraj earns plaudits for her UNGA speech”

"Whereas we produce IITs and IIMs, you (Pak) have produced LeT and Jaish-e-Muhammed". We produced scholars, doctors, engineers.

The Jan Dhan banking programme for the poor had opened bank accounts to 300 million Indians, a number about the size of the USA population, she said.

On last Thursday i.e. September 21, 2017, Pakistan's Prime Minister said that he sees "zero" political or military role for India in Afghanistan.

Also speaking at the same meeting earlier this week, British Prime Minister Theresa May had criticised world leaders who are "deliberately flouting" worldwide rules and counted the USA on a list of states that turned their backs on "global cooperation".

The minister also exhorted China to drop its opposition to Pakistan-based JeM chief Masood Azhar being designated as a global terrorist. She said India's refusal to implement the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir dispute is a deception and aggression.

Responding to an Afghan delegate who had accused Pakistan of failing to eliminate terrorist safe havens in the country, Tipu Usman urged the Kabul government to stop blaming others for its own problems and instead work towards eliminating the threat of terrorism on both sides of the border.

Swaraj, who has come in for praise for making MEA and embassies accessible by using social media, signed off by quoting PM's favourite shloka "Sarve bhavantu..."

While speaking at the 72nd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Sushma said that India proposed CCIT two decades back, but till now United Nations has not been able to agree upon a definition of terrorism.

Sushma said India and Pakistan have mutually agreed to resolve all issues bilaterally, in the Shimla Agreement and the Lahore Declaration.

India accuses Islamabad of training, arming and infiltrating militants into Kashmir, a claim that Pakistan has denied. "The truth is that these have become rituals", she said. "This is not because we are afraid of any power, influenced by friend or foe, or tempted by some imagined greed", she declared in a speech to scores of world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly.

They also discussed strengthening of the US-India political and economic partnership.

The foreign minister held a total of 27 bilateral meetings with her counterparts, and attended 12 multilateral and two trilateral meetings. Some of them are inspirational.

"There have been many governments under many parties during 70 years of Indian freedom, for we have been a sustained democracy", she said.
